Individual conductor insulation has an enormous impact on the cable’s bandwidth and the overall definition level. Tchernov Cable developed the sandwich type CAFPE® (Combined Air-Foamed Polyethylene) insulation, based on hot extrusion. The 3-layer CAFPE® comprises two layers of solid PE with different structural properties and an air-foamed PE in between. It surpasses other insulators in terms of signal attenuation and dispersion and is used mainly in coaxial interconnects.
With the advanced 2-layer CAFPE® class-leading consistent dielectric properties have been achieved. Adopted for symmetrical cables, it consists of extended inner air-foamed PE layer and thin solid PE as an outer layer. Having substituted solid PE with the foamed one we eliminated a direct conductor contact with higher relative permittivity dielectric. This results in a significant decrease of distributed capacitance and signal energy loss. High precision tooling, specially adjusted for each particular extruding process guarantees better structural uniformity and homogeneity of each insulation layer.
